Tenant Rights and Obligations
Tenants have both rights and obligations. Rights can include a right to a maintained residential property in a good state of repair and fit for habitation, including all services and facilities supplied by the landlord and the right to quiet enjoyment of the rental unit and its property. Obligations can include upkeep of the unit to a reasonable health, cleanliness, and sanitary standards throughout the unit.

The Residential Tenancies Act governs how to terminate a tenancy and when notices are to be served. Improper termination of a tenancy or improperly retaking possession of a unit may open a person up to liabilities.
